Singularity of Vision might stifle Innovation
نویسنده
چکیده
Dialectical interplay between various world views and visions embedded in a socio-cultural system is essential for continual and sustained innovation by such a system. The view that a system must necessarily operate on the basis of a single commonly shared vision is too strong a requirement for systems to sustain innovation. Such a view is based on an analytic conception of socio-cultural systems rather than on a dialectical conception. Dialectical conceptions of systems recognize the creative value of dynamics that emanate from simultaneous entertainment of varying perspectives and perceptions of what a system can or ought to be.

Management in the Innovation Project
The object of this research is to identify the sources of risk in innovation projects and to determine whether they could be managed better. Due to the diversity of opinions and theories over the nature of risk, reaching an agreement about risk management is difficult. This will be a major problem if any effort is made to proactively manage ‘risk’ in naturally ‘risky’ areas such as innovation. ...
متن کاملLaw and Regulation of Artificial Intelligence and Robots: Conceptual Framework and Normative Implications
Discussions over the law and regulation of Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) and robots are all the rage as early applications are introduced in society. In computer science, concerns that “overly rigid regulations might stifle innovation”, have fueled proposals to create regimes of selective immunity for research on intelligent machines. At the same time, ethical arguments have prompted calls for...
متن کاملHungry for innovation: pathways from GM crops to agroecology
GM crops are well suited to high-input monoculture agricultural systems that are highly productive but largely unsustainable in their reliance on external, non-renewable inputs. Intellectual property rights granted for GM crops often close down, rather than open up further innovation potential, and stifle investment into a broader diversity of innovations allowing a greater distribution of thei...
متن کاملDo Stronger Patents Stimulate or Stifle Innovation? The Crucial Role of Financial Development
This study explores the effects of patent protection in a distance-to-frontier R&D-based growth model with financial frictions. We find that whether stronger patent protection stimulates or stifles innovation depends on credit constraints faced by R&D entrepreneurs. When credit constraints are non-binding (binding), strengthening patent protection stimulates (stifles) R&D. The overall effect of...
متن کاملDoes intellectual monopoly stimulate or stifle innovation ?
This study develops an R&D-based growth model with vertical and horizontal innovation to shed some light on the current debate on whether patent protection stimulates or sties innovation. We analyze the e¤ects of patent protection in the form of blocking patents. We show that patent protection changes the direction of innovation by having asymmetric e¤ects on vertical innovation (i.e., quality...
